the film "mon rak luk thung" is considered a landmark of both thai cinema and thai popular music; its unprecedented 6 month run in bangkok upon release in 1970 (พ.ศ. 2513) represented an increasing fondness for luk thung music in the capitol. the story is set in a rural village and concerns the romance between a poor farmer and the daughter of a rich landowner (played by mit chaibancha & phetchara chaowarat respectively). taking a cue from hindi films, the action is interspersed with musical numbers, many of which feature the original singers picturizing their own tunes. and the tunes are in top form! featuring the work of famed songwriter ไพบูลย์ บุตรขัน (phaibun butkhan) and his team, many of these songs are pop standards, with dozens of recorded versions. the film itself also has a number of iterations, most notably as the basis of a tv serial drama of the same name. please enjoy these unforgettable songs!

What a great soundtrack!
Now I can understand why this movie was so popular.
The visuals and story are nothing special from what I can tell from the very poor quality DVD of Monrak Luk Thung that is circulating -- typical star-crossed romance of a poor boy falling in love with a girl from a rich family.
But it was the songs that had audiences flocking to see the film. Hard to imagine a movie today making people so passionate.
i keep missing these links before they're deleted.. darn.. now i know i'll be checking back more often
hmm.. the link seems to still be up from here.. you just click through tracklist to the sendspace page? let me know if you still have trouble getting it!
how can i get a copy of the soundtrack from the TV series??? I've been looking everywhere and I don't speak thai so i'm lost. HELP!
i can help you out.. though it's mostly just (in my opinion inferior) versions of the same songs.. nonetheless, here it is, in thai or transliterated
Hi Peter! This file has been deleted. If you ever have a chance to reup, I'd love to hear. If not, no problem, you've provided me with plenty of other treasures to please my ears :-)
thanks so much, holly... new link is up now! yes, please let me know whenever you find a broken link; i have backups of all the files ready to go, so it's no trouble to re-up! just don't have enough time to keep tabs on what's live & what's not, so i really appreciate it when people let me know. thanks again!
Thank you, Peter!
Please, can you re-upload this classic?
new link in post!
My first wife and I saw the movie on its first release. I don't remember the name of the theater, but I know it's been torn down. The music has remained in my memory as it was first movie we watched after we married and the music reminds me of her and our 43 years together. Lloyd
