this week, luk thung eclecticism with the incomparable suang santi! hailing from sukhothai, suang made his living as a boxer before joining phiphat boribun and his band. after marrying bandmate namphueng boribun, they struck off on their own, with suang first singing in siphrai chaiphra's krading thong band and finally mongkhon amatayakun's famous chularat. suang won success not only with his own recordings but with songs he penned for others, everyone from phanom nopphon to phaichit aksonnarong to the royal sprites. sadly, suang was killed in a car accident in 1982 alongside famed promoter uea ari. this cassette from sun stereo compiles a wide range of singles, mostly from mon mueangnuea's tra kratai khu (twin rabbits brand) and other sub-labels. while the second side is classic ramwong-, lae- and talung-styled luk thung, side a finds him tackling hard rock, heavy funk, reggae, disco, brass band and spaghetti western themes. the tape was quite water-damaged and worse-for-wear when i got it, but i think it cleaned it up okay (though you may notice above-average wow and flutter levels in places).. enjoy!
