this week, two luk thung big-men going head-to-head! waiphot phetsuphan, trailblazer of the '60s, and yotrak salakchai, pop maven of the '70s/'80s, come together under producer trairong atsarangchai and onpa marketing for some '90s-style keyboard workstation-driven reworks of classic tracks. the emphasis is on rhythmic lae-style luk thung, with a selection of interesting instrumentation along to support the programmed beats and synthesized elements. enjoy!

this week, shan/tai classics revisited with naang laa non! i don't know much about our singer aside from her being a native of tachileik, the border town bridging burma/myanmar's shan state and thailand's mae sai province. this tape was recorded for music tai record shop (where i bought it), and the song selection consists of some tunes that are new to me, but also ones that should be familiar to fans of naang naang. the production is cleaned up a bit from the lo-fi sound that characterized earlier recordings of shan rock, but the blistering guitar tone hasn't gone anywhere.. enjoy!
