this week let's hear a great tape that alexandra found for me, featuring the wild isaan sounds of prasan wiangsima! although i've seen his stuff around quite often (sometimes under the name "prasansin wiangsima"), i haven't been able to find much information about mr. prasan online. his stage name would seem to indicate that he's from nakhon ratchasima... beyond that i don't have much to go on (although i do suspect this might be a "thongchan promotions" production). but really, all you need to know is that he's a top-form molam with a great band behind him. in addition to some awesome sax riffs, there's crazy stuff happening with the rhythm section on here, especially the interplay between bass & drums.. there might even be some phin hai (a set of jars with rubber bands stretched across the mouths) work going on. anyway, don't miss this one... thanks, alexandra!

Thank you for your blog which is a great way to discover Thai music thanks to your selections and short introductions!

My Thai wife is amazed to rediscover all those tracks which remind her of her childhood (she's not that old, but her parents were into Surapon etc so it brings back lots of memories)

This seems like thankless work in general, so I would like second the above thanks. I'm not anon's wife but this brings me back, too.

Totally awesome album! and extra cool to spot the "Rasputin" sax intro of track!

Now let's see... this is the 5th Thai Rasputin version I've heard so far :-)
