this week, solo instrumental workouts from the "god of khaen", sombat simla (here performing under the name chimrat)! born in maha sarakham, sombat lost his sight due to an accident shortly after birth. his father began teaching him to play the khaen at age 6, and by the time he was 14 he was accompanying local molam. this cassette for nok kaeo (v. music sound) was recorded in 1995 at c.a. studio in bangkok, and its suggested use (as per the cover text) is for study. sombat has a very idiosyncratic style, with a number of unusual and humorous effects peppered throughout his virtuosic performances. enjoy!
