back again this week with some great chiang mai local pop, courtesy of mr. banyen kaewsiangthong! banyen is probably one of the bigger names in the northern thai country song scene (often appearing as part of a duo with phensi phongsi). he sings to a standard early 90's synth and sax-driven luk thung sound, with subtle influences from local lanna culture; melodic sensibilities and lyrics evocative of the region, sprinkled with words from the local kham mueang language. enjoy!

i hope everyone will pardon the lax posting around the holidays; we are back again this week, though, with the sweet sounds of yesteryear! our artist today is singer charin nanthanakhon, originally from the northern city of chiang mai. he first came to the capital for university, and it was at this time that he began his musical career under the tutelage of salai krailoet, famous violinist and composer for the luk krung circle. charin was famed not only in the music world, but for his acting as well; originally a theatre performer, he made his mark especially on the silver screen; as actor, director and husband to preeminent film icon phetchara chaowarat^[1]. this tape is a collection of his famous duets, featuring many of the era's leading ladies. enjoy!
